Often after uninstalling a third-party compression software program the system does not restore the Zip file association , and the Compressed (zipped) Folder ShellNew entry may also be missing.

To restore the Windows XP Zip file integration quickly, type this command from Start, Run dialog box:
REGSVR32 ZIPFLDR.DLL

Then if that alone does not alleviate the problem , another command is also required to change the .ZIP association.

Type in Start, Run dialog box:
cmd /c assoc .zip=CompressedFolder
